Creating meaningful experiences rooted in the Jewish story.
|
My story began in the loving community of Temple Sholom in Broomall, PA. After many transformative experiences both at URJ Camp Harlam and with the North American Federation of Temple Youth (NFTY), I decided to become a rabbi.
A proud graduate of Brandeis University, I earned a B.A. in Near Eastern and Judaic Studies and Journalism. My fascination with Jewish learning led me soon afterwards to Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion, where I earned a Master of Arts in Hebrew Literature (2007) and a Master of Arts in Religious Education (2008). I was ordained as a rabbi in 2008. I was blessed to spend six years as the rabbi of Congregation Kol Ami in Elkins Park, PA (2018-2024). I’ve also served as the rabbi of Vassar Temple in Poughkeepsie, NY (2015-2018), taught on the faculty of Gann Academy in Waltham, MA (2013-2015), and served as the associate rabbi at Judea Reform Congregation in Durham, North Carolina (2008-2013). Every summer, I volunteer as faculty in the Creative Writing Program at URJ Six Points Creative Arts Academy. |
I am a Past President of the Women's Rabbinic Network, where I also served as the Networking Vice President. I am currently participating in the Rukin Rabbinic Fellowship with 18 Doors (formerly Interfaith Family). I have completed the Pardes Mahloket Matters Fellowship, the Clergy Studio Fellowship with the Jewish Studio Project, the JJGI Fellowship with the Hadar Institute and the LEAP Fellowship with the Center for Learning and Leadership (CLAL). I've collaborated with the Reform movement on the creation of The Torah: A Women's Commentary, Mishkan Ha-Nefesh, the Reform movement's new High Holy Day prayerbook, and Mishkan Ha-Nefesh for Youth.
My writing appears on the Jewish Women, Amplified Blog at the Jewish Women's Archive. Some of my essays appear in The Sacred Calling: Four Decades of Women in the Rabbinate, The Sacred Exchange: Creating a Jewish Money Ethic, God: Jewish Choices for Struggling with the Ultimate, and Spirituality 101: Your Guide to Keeping-or Finding-Your Spiritual Life on Campus. You can find my short stories in The Drum Literary Magazine, The Helix Literary Magazine, and Jewish Women's Literary Annual. I've written three books for children: The World Needs Beautiful Things (Kar-Ben Publishing 2018), Queen Vashti's Comfy Pants (Apples and Honey Press 2021), and The Moving Box Sukkah (Apples and Honey Press 2023). Along with co-author Erica Wovsaniker, I've written a middle-grade midrash collection called Maybe It Happened This Way: Bible Stories Reimagined (Apples and Honey Press 2022).
My passions include sharing the stories of heroic women in the Bible, writing creative midrash, exploring modern Jewish literature, live storytelling, teaching prayer, and creating meaningful worship and life-cycle experiences.
